Getting To Know You

Today, we were asked if we knew the people in our community. Now that is a loaded question. I do know a lot of people, all along the Central Coast, but only specific types of people. I know people involved with softball, cheerleading, and football. If you ask me if I know a certain adult, I probably don't, but I do know hundreds of girls from the age six to age fifteen. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them, and I love helping people. I don't many people in my classes, but I recognize most of them. At school I am more of a person that hides in the back. Usually, by the end of the first semester though, I know most of my classmates.

I Can

You can't. Those two words are the ones I've heard most often in my life. Someone was always telling me I couldn't. And for a while, I let myself believe them.  I used to dream of becoming an astronaut when I got older. Someone told me I couldn't.   I wanted to be the smartest student in my third grade class. Someone told me I couldn't. I wanted to be the best softball player that ever lived. I think you know what they said. Sometimes there were legitimate reasons as to why I couldn't do certain things. My fear of heights made my dreams of becoming an astronaut unachievable. There are always people smarter than me. I had asthma and was always sick growing up. I let myself listen to others and take away the best parts of my life. I listened to what everyone said I couldn't do until I was in fourth grade. How I Read

When I was five, I first learned to read. I hated it. My grandma would sit me down at the table, and forced me to read. I learned the alphabet and how to read before I even attended school, and I did not enjoy it. I did not learn to enjoy reading until I switched schools in fourth grade. The school I attended was Benjamin Foxen Elementary School, in Sisquoc Ca, and it was literally in the country. I had a teacher named Mrs. Adams, and she taught me to love reading. She split my class into four groups, and assigned each group a book. My group was assigned Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson.
